The German Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) co-ordinates the objectives of family and youth policies at a national level. The mission of the ministry is to develop ways to act on the fundamental issues of family and youth policies and to co-operate with the its partners – other federal ministries, the federal states and sponsors. The ministry is responsible for managing the specialist co-operation within individual areas, for the initiation of projects and measures related to policies for children and young people, and research into the situation of young people.

In order to provide the public with an overview of the more than 6,000 local projects in the federal programme, the ministry needed an Internet site to offer comprehensive, clear and up-to-date information. This called for development of the complete corporate design, i.e. logos, slogans, acronyms, etc and implementation using a role-based CMS system on a central portal for press and public relations. In addition to functions such as search, newsletter and project data import, etc, particular emphasis was placed on the completely barrier-free implementation of source texts, incl. the W3C guidelines, in order to maximise the target audience reached.

artnology GmbH created the corporate design, layout and barrier-free implementation of the central portal for the federal programme. Building on the tried and tested ZOPE CMS system, a dynamic design concept was developed, including easy administration of the functions and convenient and uncomplicated content maintenance. The source text generation was carefully executed manually (no WYSIWYG editors) with extensive review and wide-reaching browser compatibility. This provided the customer with a high quality, individually aligned system that enabled time and cost efficient maintenance.
